Optical Engineer
Lumai is seeking an Optical Engineer to join our Oxford-based team.
As an Optical Engineer, you will contribute to the development of our optical computing product, focusing on designing, building, and testing free-space optical systems to achieve high compute performance. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with a dynamic team and gain hands-on experience in advancing optical technologies.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Optical design and modelling of systems.
- System architecture development and performance testing.
- Prototype building and contribute to system integration (must be willing to work in a laser lab environment).
- Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers on optical components.
- Collaborate with team members to develop and optimize the complete optical computing system.
REQUIREMENTS
- A degree in optical engineering, physics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience with Zemax or similar ray-tracing software.
- Hands-on experience with free-space optical systems, including alignment and testing.
- Familiarity with optical devices such as LC-SLMs and DMDs.
- Programming skills in Python and/or Matlab.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with optical system prototyping and new product development.
- Exposure to AR/VR systems, projectors, or optical switches is a big plus.
- Familiarity with patents, publications, or innovative research contributions.
